About CREP

The purpose of the Clavey River Ecosystem Project (CREP) is to improve the health of, and the biological trends in, the watershed of the Clavey River while allowing for continued use of its resources and to accomplishing this purpose by using a collaborative approach.

In order to do this CREP will:

  • Conduct a scientific assessment and analysis that answers key questions about the health of the watershed, using the best science appropriate to each question.
  • Based on the information developed in the study, produce recommendations for on-the-ground projects in the watershed and for necessary changes in the USDA FS Stanislaus National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan (Forest Plan).

As a group, CREP aims to:

  • Work cooperatively to develop a shared vision for the watershed and to reach agreement on the projects and recommended changes to the Forest Plan.
  • Involve interested individuals and organizations (stakeholders) in the local community and the wider constituency of the Stanislaus National Forest in CREP's work.

Success for CREP will involve:

  • Reaching an understanding of the state of health of the Clavey watershed through credible science and community knowledge.
  • Seeing the watershed moving towards ever-greater ecological health.
  • Having the Clavey watershed serve as a reference for the healthy functioning of other watersheds.
  • Having CREP recommendations funded and carried out.
  • Continuing involvement of CREP in the watershed.
  • Wide recognition of CREP as a workable model for other groups and watersheds.
  • Multiple uses continuing in the Clavey River watershed.

CREP's active participants include individuals who use their personal interests and institutional relationships to inform discussion, and who work to serve the broader community interest as well.

The Clavey River Ecosystem Project (CREP) is a collaborative effort of interested stakeholders that represent ranching, logging, recreation, OHV, education, government, conservation organizations and business.  As indicated, CREP members are working to collaboratively produce a scientifically sound and widely accepted Clavey River Watershed Analysis (WA).  The CREP Steering Committee meets monthly to review Watershed Analysis project work, provide direction and approve results.

In 2000 the California Resources Agency chose CREP as a pilot project to test the effectiveness of applying the latest technical information from diverse sources to a specific watershed.  The project received technical and organizational assistance from the Stanislaus National Forest (STF) and the U.C. Davis Information Center for the Environment (ICE).  As a result of the pilot project CREP possesses a wide variety of watershed data sets on roads, dispersed recreation, fire occurrences, vegetation types and other useful data to inform the CREP watershed assessment and analysis project efforts.

In early 2005 the CREP received a grant from the CALFED Bay-Delta Program for a Clavey River Watershed Analysis.   Crep Watershed Analysis

CREP Steering Committee meetings are generally held the second Tuesday of each month at the Stanislaus National Forest offices at Greenley Rd. in Sonora, CA. at 10 a.m. For more information or to confirm a specific meeting date and time please contact either info@claveyriver.net  or Tel. (209) 532-3671.

CREP's Watershed Analysis (WA) project receives grant funding from the CALFED Bay-Delta Program.

The purpose of the CALFED Bay-Delta Program is to develop and implement a long-term comprehensive plan that will restore ecological health and improve water management for beneficial uses of the Bay-Delta System which connects the rivers of the Sierras to the sea.
